Thinkers OooVol 1 5Collection

thinker launched a new project named “thinkers’ ooo” since 2020. It is a column to share thinkers’ points of view to their favorite brands, some of which are not even well-known to the public. We love the products of course, but it is the brands that we are attracted to and inspired from.

“ooo” means our perspectives, imagination and self statement. Written by the designers and planners themselves, the articles include why we love the brands, how we use the products and what we learn from the stories behind the brands. Here are the first five articles we’ve published. Enjoy!

ANGEL ATTACK

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (EVA) is a Japanese TV anime first released in October, 1995. It is recognized as one of the greatest series over generations. This figure “METAL BUILD EVA-01 TEST TYPE” is designed by Ikuto Yamashita who reproduced its appeal using different textures to alter the image of the initial robot.

“To me, EVA is a cool robot anime from the first glance, but it is actually a philosophical art piece that digs into humanity. I’ve been its fan for 20 years, but I can still gain different thoughts and reflection every time I revisit EVA. Director Anno once said that ‘Do not expect a clear answer. We all need to find our own answers.’ That’s why there is always a missing puzzle in the story, and it is the core reason that makes EVA geniously unique.“

Collection in Kitchen

récolte in French means collecting. Combining simplicity, modern and colors, récolte is aiming at nuclear families or single men and women to fulfill their needs to “just right” products and bring fresh experience of kitchen wares.

“As a cooking beginner, I have dreamed of an air fryer because it is like a chef in the kitchen to make tasty meals for me. After searching I found récolte air fryer that is perfect for me who occasionally cook and cares about aesthetics. I especially love its soft outline and lightness. These features make itself almost compatible with everyone’s kitchen. I also appreciate its easy-to-use interface and functions. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s just right. ”

An ideal item for ideas

Postalco has been creating document holders and notebooks for 20 years. Its founder Mike Abelson, a bag designer, created a leather envelope document case for his wife Yuri, an graphic designer, to collect her materials and papers properly. That was Postalco’s first product. Now based in Tokyo, Postalco has developed lines of bags, stationery and wears that continue focusing on communication of papers.

“ I often need to draw or write my ideas on papers when drafting. Therefore a flexible notebook is so much needed. I was looking for the one that allowed me to add or take away paper freely, or to rearrange pages due to different projects. And then I found Postalco’s snap pad. With a snap pad I can easily bind blank papers or paper texture in any order I want. When you snap papers, the metal buttons will “click,” which brings me joy and excitement. I love its hand-dyed fabric cover, too. Postalco’s snap pad has already been my top recommendation for stationery lovers. “

BUILDING BLOCK was founded in 2011 by Taiwanese-American Kimberly Wu and Nancy Wu. They came from the automobile and sportswear industry and incorporated the concept into bag design. And thus the bags are minimal and modern. They sometimes play with materials like metal or woods to create unique designs.

“I have been following BUILDING BLOCK since I was in university. I love its simplicity and neutral tone. Its geometric outlines of the bags and the combination of various materials brings me enough fun and more importantly, the peace that I can carry with me everyday. On the contrary to the sea-like ever changing fashion trends, BUILDING BLOCK is more of the solid stone on the shore, providing sensitivity and boldness.”

Scent talks aesthetics

diptyque’s first shop opened at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris in 1961. Three founders from different backgrounds work together to create an experience that sparks by perfumes.

“ Speaking of styling, men usually think of hair cut, wears or accessories. However, fragrance is also a key that you cannot ignore. It not only completes your ‘look’ but also gives you the right mood for the day. diptyque is famous for its creativity in mixing and creating unique olfactory experience by playing with different ingredients. I personally like this TAM DAO, which is mainly composed of sandalwood, cedar and cypress. The relatively heavy wood olfactory emphasizes the image of forest and elephant that brings the forests of Indochina right to you.”
